Happy New Year! I’m delighted to share our Top 20 Home Inspection Photos. I’ve been compiling our top photos of the year since 2011, meticulously pouring over all of the crowd-favorites from our Facebook and Instagram pages. Enjoy!
Attic time-out chair – child behavior problems plummeted after moving the time-out chair to the attic.
Window sill/ash tray – “The homeowner misunderstood the doctor who suggested a cancer screening.” Shout out to Bill Cunningham for this winning caption.
Why is there a cute little house here?
Because it’s the sewer access panel. Awesome!
Painted Dishwasher Just because you can paint it doesn’t mean you should. The entire control panel was painted over, so we could not operate the dishwasher… but not from lack of effort.
Leaking disposer Also, note the unprotected NM cable, and the lack of a trap on the disposer drain.
Fireball – they didn’t leave any for us.
Another stash – if you want to hide your stash better, don’t leave the bottles exposed ;-).
Creative welding – the steel post got in the way of the overhead door, so someone cut the post and welded these beams to the side.
Hot flush strikes again – who doesn’t like a warm toilet seat? Also, note the bidet control on the side of the toilet. Warm water reduces the pucker effect, we’ve been told.
Missing handrail
It still leaks
Mean neighbor sign they hate kids, dogs, people, noise, and untidy yards.
Moldy furnace filter
Scary dangerous: You have exposed conductors with no overcurrent protection. Also, was someone trying to bypass the meter to get free electricity? Wrong side, rookies.
Separated PVC building drain sewer inspections are for ALL houses, not just old houses.
Business in the front, party in the rear
Short chimney it must have been cold outside.
Peanut butter cap “Should I cap the old opening?”
“You’re damn skippy.”
Teddy bear heads in jars it could be worse.
Please use both lanes until the zipper merge shout out to Bryan Standley for this winning caption.
Under-toilet lighting is all the rage but seriously, we’re showing that the toilet wasn’t caulked at the floor.
Most garages are lucky to have one urinal
Water heater vent truffles don’t those black things look like old-timey neck truffles? They’re supposed to act like heat sinks to radiate some heat from the vent back into the living space. They’re not effective; if they were, we’d recommend removing them. The water heater vent needs to stay hot to get the exhaust gases to vent properly and to minimize condensation inside the vent.
Best alternative use of a wire nut
If you’re counting, sorry (not sorry), I went over 20. There were 24. I couldn’t help myself. Also, please enjoy these collections from past years:
